KAMPALA, Uganda — MTN Uganda on Friday introduced the Kabode Supa smartphone, offering a new pathway to digital access through an affordable “Mola Mola” (slowly slowly) device financing scheme. The company announced that customers can acquire the smartphone with an initial payment of 45,000 Ugandan shillings and then pay the remaining balance through daily installments not exceeding 1,000 shillings, or through weekly and monthly payment options.
The newly launched Kabode Supa comes equipped with several enhanced features designed for everyday use. These include an extended battery life, increased RAM for smoother multitasking, expanded storage capacity, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calls. As part of a special launch promotion, every customer who purchases the Kabode Supa will receive a total of 16 gigabytes of free data, distributed over an eight-month period, to facilitate their initial digital engagement.
Speaking about the launch, Mackinon Kabarole, the Acting Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Uganda, emphasized the company’s commitment to digital inclusion. “At MTN, we are driven by the belief that every Ugandan deserves the opportunities and benefits that come with a modern, connected life,” Kabarole said. “The Kabode Supa is more than just a smartphone; it’s a tool that can empower students, support entrepreneurs, and enable individuals across Uganda to pursue their aspirations. This launch underscores our ongoing mission to bridge the digital divide by providing access to reliable and affordable devices.”
The Kabode Supa is now available at all MTN Shops throughout Uganda. To acquire the device, customers need to make the initial deposit of 45,000 shillings. The remaining balance can be paid through convenient automated installments: 900 shillings daily, 6,250 shillings weekly, or 25,000 shillings monthly over an eight-month period. These payment options are inclusive of all government taxes.
MTN Uganda has also made it easier for customers to check their eligibility for the Kabode Supa by dialing a USSD code, 165521#, and following the prompts. The company highlighted that its “Mola Mola” device financing initiative has already placed smartphones in the hands of over two million customers, contributing to increased digital literacy and access to information.
The launch of the Kabode Supa aligns with MTN Uganda’s overarching theme for its initiatives: “Together, our vibes are unstoppable!”. The company believes that by making smartphones more affordable, it is empowering Ugandans to stay connected, explore new opportunities, and improve their quality of life in an increasingly digital world.
