KAMPALA – Former Leader of Opposition and Commissioner of Parliament, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga has finally broken silence over several allegations that have been made against him on various media platforms.
Ever since when the “Uganda Parliament Exhibition” (social media Campaign) unearthed several extravagancy expenditures at Parliament of Uganda including 500 million shillings reward to Hon Mpuuga (LOP by then) and other Commissioners, things turned around for the Nyendo Mukungwe legislator (Mpuuga) being accused of acting against National Unity Platform’s Party principles.
Having failed to return back the 500 million shillings to the consolidated fund as earlier advised by some party leaders, it caused a very big vacuum between Mpuuga and party leadership which resulted into recalling him from Parliamentary Commission where the party had seconded him after vacating the office of the Leader of Opposition.
“I wish to state that I am a founder member of National Unity Platform (NUP) where I serve as a Deputy President. I am not leaving the party I founded and I’m not doing anything that destroys a young party I participated in establishing with conscience and conviction. At least I’m not yet moved to that level.” Mpuuga revealed at his presser held at Parliament on Tuesday.
On whether he will vaccate the office of Commissioner of Parliament as requested by his Party, Mpuuga noted that he saw a letter to that effect but he was not ready to coment on the matter as per now.
“I wish to affirm that I confess no wrong doing whether in law or elementary common sense. The position of the law has been clarified to whoever wished to understand; but to not deliberately slander and defame me for short-term political security. “
He distanced himself from allegations of engaging in corruption as he asked leaders to always look for amicable ways of settling misunderstandings with the people they lead because disagreement is natural.
“To our supporters and followers in the diaspora, we immensely appreciate your contribution to the building of our young party and the quest for a new Uganda in general. You interact with a lot of information, but largely misinformation targeting your justifiable desperation for change. I pledge to you my availability and clarity of mission and purpose in whatever we do to change the trajectory of our country.”
He further called upon all NUP supporters in the diaspora to embark on a joint push for major reforms in our electoral laws and major constitutional shifts to enable diaspora citizens’ participation in our electoral activities beyond manipulating the change agenda by selfish individuals here.
