KAMPALA – On Friday the International Youth conference kicked off in Uganda at International University of East Africa (IUEA) attracting thousands of young people from various educational Institutions across the World.
At the official opening of this two day conference , Hon. Sidronius Opolot, the state minister in charge of mineral development revealed that, Uganda is in its final stages of utilizing its natural resources (uranium) in generating Nucler energy will be used in generation of electricity.
“In the process of developing human resource for nuclear program, we require our students to pick first interested in nuclear science. All those wishing to take up these courses should have studied and passed physics ,mathematics and chemistry. I therefore call upon IUEA and other Universities in the country to train more Mechanical engineers,civil engineers and scientists in biology because there is going to be more demand for them during the production of nuclear energy and nuclear medicine.”
He further promised the gathering Uganda will have her first Nuclear plant ol established in 2032 with the view of generating between 1000 and 2000 megawatts of electricity.
Dr. Emeka Akaezuewa, the Vice Chancellor of the University in his speech, emphasized that their education is world class and their main focus is to produce graduates are the youth who will become the best Technologists, health specialists ,Ministers and captain of industries.
“In all our teaching, we ensure that we play an important role in improving upon our technology every day that passes so that our students can be able to make change that the world needs. At the the end of the day, its you the youth here studying that will go out an make a change that the world yearns for in terms nuclear energy of Africa, change and ecology.” remarked Emeka
He therefore commended Russian Federation and partners for sponsorship of this important event aimed at improving young people’s knowledge about Culture and technology
“Under health care , as population increases we need healthy people, need new ways of developing technology in that area. Culture makes us who we are , education is what enables us to continue improving lives of people in all aspects.”
He further promised that as Africa continues to look for new solutions for old problems, they will ensure that they equip students with skills and knowledge which will they will use in generating impactful solutions.
At this conference students were granted an opportunity of showcasing their innovations and businesses at youth festival exhibition at IUEA campus.
The International Youth Festival comprises two events a conference happening on Friday 4th October 2024 and Music Show happening on Saturday 5th October 2024.
It was organized under a theme: “The Role of Young People in Advancing Technology, Sustainable Energy & Global Business.”
