The Minister of State for Investment and Privatization, Hon. Evelyn Anite and Uganda Investment Authority senior officials visited Roofings Rolling Mills company limited shop at Kampala Industrial and Business Park on Thursday.
Anite, UIA Board Chairman Morrison Rwakakamba and Director General Robert Mukiza inspected the operations and work progress in Roofings Namanve, which is one of the first companies to set up shop in Kampala Industrial and Business Park.
The steel manufacturing company now employs over 2000 people directly and over 8,000 Ugandans indirectly. Anite and her team also witnessed a groundbreaking ceremony for the 5th phase expansion of the Roofing factory which is expected to see them double production from 12,000 to 25,000 tonnes of steel products.
The factory which has been in existence for the last 27 years uses locally sourced raw materials such as iron ore mined from Muko, Kabaale.
Roofings Uganda Ltd is one of the largest steel manufacturing industries in East and Central Africa.
Launched in 1995, Roofings Limited was the anchor that helped established the other two subsidiaries that make up the Roofings Group.
Roofings Limited is located on plot 126 Entebbe Road, Lubowa Estate, and approximately 6 km from Kampala city.
Roofings Limited mainly engages in cold forming and produces a vast range of steel products for the construction sector. The Lubowa plant is the headquarters for the group.
