NAMANVE– Hon. Evelyn Anite the Finance Minister in charge of Investments and Privatization has expressed gratitude to SIMI Mobile Uganda for its tremendous contribution towards Uganda’s technological advancement.
“In the past nobody believed that Uganda can produce quality Mobile phones, but now with Simi, the dream has come into reality.For me as a Ugandan, I get excited whenever I see this, some times I forget that am a Minister and start dancing like a kid..” remarked Anite while launching SIMI Mobile’s Mecha Smart phone on Saturday, at the SIMI factory in Namanve industrial Park.
The Minister also advised all Ugandans without and those with more than one phone, to at least include a Mecha Smart phone which comes with a wide range of features at an affordable price.
“I know that if a Ugandan buys a product made in Uganda, also supports the young people working in local industries to survive.”
The Minister also commended Jumia and Dr. Patrick Bitature of Simba Group of companies for granting Simi Mobiles an opportunity to sale it’s products through their channels of distribution.
Dr Patrick Bitature , the Chairman of Simba Group of companies , committed use their 30 years experience in mobile phone business as well as all their outlets in East Africa to market for all SIMI products
“The period we have spent in the business, we have sold about 20 million feature phones and now the trend has changed to smartphones. I salute my brothers (SIMI Directors ) for the bold idea of local production of Mobile phones which has created employment opportunities to many Ugandans.”
Ares Zhou CEO Engo holdings (SIMI), expressed gratitude to the government of Uganda through the Minister, partners and distributors for their support which has enabled SIMI to transform.
David Beecham Okware, the Chief Executive board secretary of Engo Holdings Group, revealed that before joining the phone production sector, they were Phone dealers with a shop in Kampala road.
“In 2016, we were selling Mobile phones on Kampala road like any other business man, later on we developed an idea of getting into production business. We developed this idea, acquired land and set up this facility which was later commissioned by the President. We started off with feature phones (button phones) and sold more than 400,000 phones by that then.” Remarked Beecham
He also pointed out that , later on as Technology advanced , they graduated to production of tablets and smart phones. “We worked with UBOS and provided tablets which were used in the recently concluded National Housing and Population census.”
The Mecha Smart phone, connects to 4G and 5G network, high resolution camera and long life battery.
