The Merck Foundation has announced the winners of its 2023 Fashion Awards, which aim to raise awareness about social and health issues in Africa.
The awards, which were announced in partnership with African First Ladies, recognized 16 talented fashion designers from across the continent.
The theme of the “More Than a Mother” Fashion Awards was to raise awareness about social issues such as breaking infertility stigma, supporting girl education, ending child marriage, ending female genital mutilation (FGM), stopping gender-based violence (GBV), and promoting women’s empowerment.
The “Diabetes and Hypertension” Fashion Awards focused on promoting a healthy lifestyle and raising awareness about the prevention and early detection of diabetes and hypertension in Africa.

The Merck Foundation has also announced the call for applications for the 2025 Fashion Awards, which will be held under the same themes. African fashion designers and students are invited to apply by submitting their designs to mailto:submit@merck-foundation.com.
