KAMPALA-United Nations Association of Uganda (UNAU) has emphasized the need to involve media practitioners in all planning activities and implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) , if Uganda is to meet it’s developmental goals.
Mr. Richard Baguma , Secretary General UNAU, on addressing participants during the media engagement held in Kampala on Thursday, noted that; “In order to achieve meaningful grass root development, u need to have the media as a key stakeholder because it helps people to properly understand the SDGs.”
He also pointed out that media covers a wider audience which it provides , simplified technical information from experts into simpler terms that can be easily understood by all people.
“Media should be in position to do interpretive journalism that helps communities understand the implications of policies on top of holding leaders and other stakeholders accountable.”
He further asked all media practitioners, to always keep ahead (in knowledge) of the people they serve.
Mr. George Muwanguzi , President UNAU, urged Journalists to always analyze government expenditure in various sectors so as to provide people with a wider perspective on economic affairs.
“There is a need to look at all the budgetary allocations, recurrent expenditure in various sectors of government in line with the Country’s National Development Plan.”
Muwanguzi also asked media practitioners to always work hand in hand with their colleagues in other countries on comparing
Kabuye Ronald, one of the journalists who participated in this engagement, called upon his colleagues to always conduct enough research before filing their stories.
