Makerere University, one of Uganda’s oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher learning, has announced that applications for the Bachelor of Education External (BED) programme for the 2025/2026 academic year are now open.
The university’s Academic Registrar, Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, revealed that the application process will be conducted entirely online, through the university’s admissions portal. This move is aimed at streamlining the application process, reducing paperwork, and increasing efficiency.
To apply, candidates must first obtain a payment reference number by filling in their details on the university’s payment website. The website, https//:(link unavailable), requires applicants to provide their name, email address, and telephone number.
Once the payment reference number is obtained, applicants will be required to pay an application fee of UGX 50,000 at any bank used by the Uganda Revenue Authority. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid in full before the application can be processed.
In addition to the application fee, applicants must also submit certified copies of their diploma transcripts and certificates, as well as a passport-size photograph. These documents must be submitted to Room 310, Level 3, Senate Building, Makerere University.
The university has warned applicants against presenting forged or other people’s academic documents, stating that the consequences of doing so are “very grave indeed”. Applicants are advised to ensure that all documents submitted are genuine and bear their correct names.
The Academic Registrar has also cautioned applicants against dealing with unauthorized agents or individuals who may claim to be acting on behalf of the university. “The Academic Registrar has not appointed any agents to act on his behalf to solicit for additional funds other than the application fee stated above,” Prof. Mukadasi emphasized.
Applicants are advised to follow the application procedure carefully and ensure that all required documents are submitted on time. The deadline for receiving applications is 28 February 2025.
The Bachelor of Education External programme is designed for individuals who wish to pursue a career in teaching but may not have the opportunity to attend a traditional university programme. The programme is offered on a part-time basis, allowing students to balance their studies with work and other responsibilities.
Makerere University is committed to providing high-quality education and training to its students, and the Bachelor of Education External programme is no exception. The programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become effective teachers and educators.
With the application process now open, prospective students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to pursue their teaching career goals.
