KAMPALA, UGANDA – Lady Justice Olive Kazaarwe Mukwaya has been elected as the first female president of the Uganda Judicial Officers Association (UJOA), succeeding Hon. Justice Asiimwe Tadeo.
UJOA is a professional organization for judicial officers in Uganda, established to promote their welfare and interests, uphold judicial integrity and independence, and enhance justice administration.
Justice Mukwaya, a seasoned judge with 25 years of legal experience, currently serves at the Land Division of the High Court. Her career includes stints as a Magistrate Grade I, Senior Magistrate Grade One, Chief Magistrate, and Personal Assistant to the then Deputy Chief Justice, Laetitia Mukasa Kikonyogo.
The new UJOA executive team includes HW Daphne Ayebare as Deputy President, HW Conrad Obol Oroya as General Secretary, and HW Turibamwe Christine as Treasurer. Representatives from various courts include Hon. Lady Justice Catherine Bamugemereire (Supreme Court), Hon. Justice Oscar Kihika (Court of Appeal), and Hon. Lady Justice Celia Nagawa (High Court).
The election was conducted by secret ballot, overseen by Justice Michael Elubu, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, assisted by HW Doreen Ainembabazi, HW Esther Asiimwe, and HW Kwesigabo Frank.
Justice Mukwaya’s leadership and experience make her well-suited to lead UJOA. Her election marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s judicial history.
Justice Mukwaya has a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration and Management, Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, and a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University. She is also a Vice President on the Executive of the International Association of Women Judges of Uganda.
