KAMPALA– President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni acting on the findings of the report by the Inspectorate General of Government (IGG) on Kiteezi land fill which collapsed and killed many people, has dismissed three top officials at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) over criminal negligence.
Those who have lost their jobs with effect from Tuesday 24th September 2024 are Dorothy Kisaka (Executive Director) , Engineer David Luyimbaazi (Deputy Executive Director) and Dr. Daniel Okello (Director Public Health).
“The IGG’s report clearly outlined the severe oversight and negligence exhibited by these officials. In light of these findings, the President has called upon the criminal Investigations Department (CID) and other crime management agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter further focusing on the angle of criminal negligence associated with this distressing event.” Reads part of the release from state house released on Tuesday evening.
To ensure a swift transition in leadership, the President has therefore directed the Public Service Commission to advertise the positions of Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, and Director of Public Health, with a goal of appointing new officials within three months.
“Additionally, the Minister for Kampala is tasked with advising the President on interim appointments for these crucial positions to ensure that operations within KCCA continue without disruption until permanent replacements are in place. The President remains committed to upholding accountability and maintaining the highest standards of governance for the benefit of all citizens.”
On 12th August 2024, Kiteezi part of Kiteezi land fill , a place where Garbage collected from Kampala was being kept collapsed and covered many homes leaving unknown number of people dead.
This was blamed on several factors including negligence of some officials with in KCCA , which prompted President Museveni to order the IGG to investigate the root cause the catastrophe.
