KAWEMPE -National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaning candidate in the recently concluded Kawempe North by-election Hon. Faridah Nambi Kigongo, has petitioned Electoral Commission over the election results.

In the letter dated 21st March 2025, authored by her lawyers of Atwijukire Dennis Advocates , addressed to Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr Simon Byabakama, Faridah asked tye commission to recount the votes casted on 13th March 2023 (Kawempe by election) adding that she has already filed a case before court.
“Nambi Faridah Kigongo has instructed us to file an application for a vote recount which we have filed. The application it is MC No. 22/2025. Please find attached a copy for your reference.” Reads part of the letter
On Monday 24th March, Nalukoola Luyimbaazi from National Unity Platform (NUP), the winner of the by election was gazetted and now awaits to be sworn in by the Speaker of Parliament.
In the recently concluded election, Nalukoola secured 17,764 votes, followed by Faridah Nambi Kigongo with 8,593 votes.
