Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga bio;
Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga is a multifaceted Ugandan leader, renowned as a lawyer, cultural leader, author, and businessman. Born in Kasanje, Uganda, in 1962, Mayiga has served as the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of the Buganda Kingdom since 2013, appointed by Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi II.
Early Life and Education
Mayiga hails from Kasanje village, Masaka District, and is the son of Ssaalongo Cyprian Mukasa and Nnaalongo Rebecca Kyese Mukasa. He attended Butale Primary School, Nkoni Primary School, St. Henry’s College Kitovu, and St. Mary’s College Kisubi. Mayiga holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Center.
Career
Mayiga’s journey with the Buganda Kingdom began in 1987, working closely with elders to understand the kingdom’s customs and traditions. He served as Secretary to the Council of Elders, Minister of Information, and Official Spokesman for the Kingdom before becoming Katikkiro. Mayiga declined two opportunities to run for public office in the Central Ugandan government before his appointment as Katikkiro.
Personal Life and Literary Contributions
Mayiga is a law partner at Buwule and Mayiga Company Advocates and has been married to Margaret Mayiga since 1987. He has authored three books: King on the Throne, chronicling Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi II’s reign; Buganda ku Ntikko, outlining the kingdom’s five key aspirations; and Uganda: 7-Key Transformation Idea, offering solutions for Third World countries’ development.
