Brigadier-General Charles Oluka, Director General of Uganda’s Internal Security Organisation (ISO), has died after battling heart complications. Gen Oluka, who took the reins of ISO in October 2020, passed away at Doctor’s Hospital Sseguku along Entebbe Road.
Oluka’s tenure at ISO began after his predecessor faced criticism over alleged concocted intelligence reports. During his time as Director General, Oluka oversaw various initiatives, including efforts to combat corruption and address security concerns.
Military sources confirmed Oluka’s passing. The spy chief had reportedly traveled abroad for a medical review last year, accompanied by his wife and personal doctor. Tragedy struck on Wednesday evening when Oluka collapsed at home after a day of work.
Under Oluka’s leadership, ISO played a pivotal role in apprehending criminals involved in the Greater Masaka machete attacks, which left nearly 30 people dead. His contributions to Uganda’s security landscape will likely be remembered as a significant part of his legacy.
Further details surrounding Oluka’s death and funeral arrangements are expected to follow.
