KAMPALA, Uganda — Are you tired of receiving unwanted text messages from telecom companies? Do you find it annoying to receive promotional messages from companies you have never interacted with? You are not alone.
Many mobile phone users in Uganda have been complaining about the high number of unsolicited messages they receive from telecom companies. These messages can be annoying and disruptive, especially if you are in a meeting or in a quiet place.
Fortunately, there is a solution to this problem. Telecom companies in Uganda have introduced a service that allows users to block unsolicited messages. This service is available on major telecom networks, including MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda.
To block unsolicited messages on MTN Uganda, dial *196#, select option 4 to view your subscriptions, blocked services, or all alerts. You can then choose to block all messages or allow all messages.
On Airtel Uganda, dial *196#, select your preferred language, English or Luganda, and then select option 8 to stop all messages or option 9 to allow all messages.
In addition to blocking unsolicited messages, mobile phone users can also take steps to protect themselves from spam text messages. Experts advise users to be careful who they give their phone number to and to avoid putting their number online. They also advise users to think before they click on any links in text messages and to never respond to spam messages.
