Grief as young doctor perishes in motorcycle accident

Abaho had completed his duty at the hospital around 1:00 AM and was riding a motorcycle registration number UDY 134Y from Rukungiri town to his residence in Kebisoni town council.

Austin Oswald Abaho, a 26-year-old health worker, attached to Nyakibale Karoli Lwanga Hospital in Rukungiri district, lost his life in a motorcycle accident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Abaho had completed his duty at the hospital around 1:00 AM and was riding a motorcycle registration number UDY 134Y from Rukungiri town to his residence in Kebisoni town council. However, the motorcycle hit a deep pothole in the middle of the road near Katoogo, along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road a few kilometers after Rukungiri town.

The impact caused Abaho to lose control, hit a guardrail, and fall. Abaho struck his head on the guardrail, resulting in his immediate death. Ely Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing.

Abaho’s body was taken to Nyakibale Karoli Lwanga Hospital for postmortem examination. The wreckage of the motorcycle was towed to Rukungiri police station for inspection. The incident is registered at Rukungiri police station under file number TAR 06/2024.
