Government urged to support sectors creating jobs for unemployed youth

The government has been called upon to support sectors that contribute to job creation, particularly those that employ a large number of youth. The events service sector, among other service providers, has been identified as a leader in job creation.

Abel Mugisha, President of the National Services Awards, emphasized the importance of supporting the services sector, citing its role in creating jobs.

Speaking at the unveiling of nominees for the National Events Service Providers’ Awards (NESPAS), Mugisha noted that the events services providers industry employs a significant number of youth. However, the informal nature of most businesses in this sector hinders their growth and professionalism, leading to losses.

Mugisha urged the government to target funding towards sectors that promote tourism, including events service providers. “The events service industry attracts tourists through various ways, including local food and art,” he said.

Mugisha also advised sector players to formalize their businesses to ease growth and sustainability. NESPAS aims to recognize and promote events service providers for their contributions to Uganda’s event service industry.

This year’s awards ceremony, themed “Celebrating the Art of Excellence and Hospitality in Uganda’s Events Service Industry,” will feature 25 categories and 5 honorary awards. A total of 124 nominees were unveiled, including Malika Tenshi, Swangz Avenue, Deejay Shiru, and Fun Factory Uganda.

The awards are scheduled to take place on October 23, 2024.
