KAMPALA, Uganda — Ugandan child rapper Fresh Kid has made headlines again, this time for his impressive academic performance in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
The 11-year-old rapper, whose real name is Patrick Ssenyonjo, scored 11 aggregates in the exams, a remarkable achievement that has left many in awe.
Fresh Kid, a pupil at Kampala Parents School, has been making waves in the music industry with his catchy lyrics and energetic performances. However, his academic prowess has proven that he is not just a one-trick pony.
The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) released the PLE results, showing an overall pass rate of 91.8%. While many candidates performed well, Fresh Kid’s achievement stands out as a testament to his hard work and dedication.
The results, presented at State House Nakasero, indicate that the overall pass rate rose to 91.8% this year, up from 88.0% in 2023.
Girls performed better than boys, while candidates excelled more in mathematics than in English, according to the results. Additionally, there was a reduction in absenteeism rates among candidates.
The results were presented by UNEB Executive Director Dan Nokrach Odongo at a function presided over by the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni.
This year’s results also showed a decline in the proportion of candidates attaining Division One, highlighting challenges with questions requiring higher-order thinking skills.
The theme for this year’s exams was “Embracing Security and Holistic Assessment of Learners in a Dynamic Environment.”
