KAMPALA-The past Presidents of Uganda Law Society (ULS) have joined other organizations, Associations and stakeholders to comment on a viral video on social media in which the current Association President Isaac Ssemakadde attacked the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo in a demeaning manner.
In a statement dated 21st November 2024, issued by Prof. Frederick Sempebwa on behalf of all ULS past President’s , these contend that the unpleasant language used by Ssemakadde in his statements against Jane Frances Abodo, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is a sign of unprofessional behavior within the legal fraternity which threatens the integrity of the Society and profession.
“The comments by Mr. Semakadde unfortunately exhibit sexism and tribalism and are conduct unbecoming of a leader of the legal profession. That Similar remarks have also unfortunately been made against other stakeholders including the Attorney General.” Reads part of the statement
Sempebwa also noted that Ssemakadde’s conduct serves to divide, scandalize and isolate the bar from the system of other actors and will have lasting negative impacts if not addressed early on by all well- meaning members of the profession.
“We implore Mr. Ssemakadde and his team of advisors to reflect on the harm that their recent conduct is visiting upon the society and urge them to urgently reform and return to the path of professionalism and civil conduct. Only by upholding the rule of law and the mutual respect for Individual and collective rights can we hope to foster real progress as opposed to unyielding populism.”
Earlier this week, a viral video of Isaac Ssemakadde was all over social media attacking the DPP as an incompetent person who has failed to people’s expectations.
The DPP’s office this week issues a statement asking Ssemakadde to retract his statements and apologize to them or else he will be dragged to courts of law.
On top of that several organizations and Associations are continuing to issue statements against that conduct.
