Empowerment of persons with hearing impairment

St. Raphael Health Foundation has initiated two inclusive projects that aim at transforming the community through uplifting the lives of persons with hearing impairment.

The initiated projects include recruiting and medically training persons with hearing impairments to become certified midwives and nurses that they deploy in clinics and hospitals to deliver midwifery and nursing services. Hence creating a platform for persons with hearing impairment to acquire employment opportunities and secure the lives of the clients from sickness and death. It is reported that St. Raphael also conducts health community outreach programs in deep remote marginalized communities where there certified nurses and midwives provide first aid treatment to pregnant mothers and sick people before referring them to hospitals and clinics for further treatment.

The Organization also offers training to persons with hearing impairment on coffee value and supply chain and encourages them to become innovators in the coffee industry. They also purchase coffee from persons with hearing impairment at fair trade prices and continue to invest partial profits from our roasted coffee into their community coffee projects with the aim of empowering persons with hearing impairment in rural Uganda by using coffee as a tool for community transformation.

The Organization has managed to create the following impact impact on over 200 persons with hearing impairment. They have improved on their well-being or lives, services, and families of in our community. They have purchased coffee from over 30 persons with hearing impairment at fair trade prices and we continue to invest partial profits from our roasted coffee into their community projects. Conducted over 25 coffee training and outreaches to persons with hearing impairment in our community.

The initiative has contributed to the social, economic, and environmental inclusion in our community through involving and empowering persons with hearing impairment in rural Uganda by using coffee as a tool for community transformation.
According to the Community leaders, they stipulated that the efforts of the organization have uplifted to standards of marginalized communities in their area. The initiated projects involving persons with hearing impairment will reduce on the UN employment rates in the district and also boost the self-esteem of the disabled, and reduce the negative attitude that the community has towards disabled people.
