KAMPALA– After successful Quad ball tournament held in Kampala recently Education for life and Social Action (ELSA) Africa, has finalized plans to roll out the sporting activity in Eastern Uganda.
This game which started in 2005 and introduced inĀ Kampala around 2021, has s gained popularity among the youth in Central region of Uganda which has prompted the organizers to take it to various parts of the country.
According to Ddumba Lawrence Director ELSA, early January 2024 , they will be starting with Eastern region (Specifically Busoga) where some young people have already expressed love for the same.
āWe have some clubs for girls in Busoga trying out Quad ball and majority of these team members are girls. Upon reaching Busoga , we want to strengthen their capacity through trainings and competition among themselves.ā
He added that after handling the existing teams , they will focus on forming quadball teams in most of the schools in the area starting from Primary to University level.
āIntroducing Quad ball to young people in schools will create a strong foundation for this game which is still new in Uganda. These pupils in school will grow with the sport and they will be able to teach others under multiplier effect and we hope that ten years from now it will be a very strong sporting activity.ā
About Quad ball Tournament
ESLA Africa team won the trophy which was accompanied by medals and an envelope with undisclosed sum of money.
It attracted several teams consisting of University students and holiday makers who were being cheered by an overwhelming number of spectators.
Wagaba Treva jorum a first year student at Makerere university who plays as chaser in ELSA Quad ball club says , the game has kept him busy and fit in every holiday since he began playing Quad ball.
āQuad ball / quidditch has allowed me to learn something new, interact with friends . It has motivated as well as built my confidenceā Jorum said
Other players also have hope that if all goes well , they will be among the first Quad ball stars world wide from Uganda.
