KAMPALA, Uganda — Ecobank Uganda and Carrefour Uganda have partnered to enhance the retail shopping experience with secure payment options and an Easter rewards campaign, the companies announced Thursday.
The collaboration involves the rollout of Ecobank’s Smart Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals at all Carrefour stores in Uganda, enabling customers to use contactless debit, prepaid, and credit cards, as well as mobile money platforms like MTN MoMo and Airtel Money. The terminals also support major global networks including Visa, MasterCard, and Interswitch, along with Apple and Samsung Pay.
As part of the partnership, Ecobank and Carrefour have launched a “Swipe and Win” Easter campaign. Customers who use Ecobank POS terminals at Carrefour locations, including Oasis Mall, Lugogo Mall, Metroplex Mall, Victoria Mall, and Acacia Mall, will have a chance to win prizes.
Each week, five customers will be selected to participate in a trolley dash worth UGX 500,000. A total of 20 winners will take part, with rewards totaling UGX 10,000,000. Winners will be celebrated during Carrefour’s weekly “Magic Hour” activations.
Grace Muliisa, managing director of Ecobank Uganda, said the partnership and campaign aim to drive digital payment adoption and provide secure, convenient, and rewarding experiences for customers.
Emmanuel Kikoni, head of cash management at Ecobank, said the POS terminals offer instant processing and generate receipts for both customers and the store.
Christophe Orcet, regional director for East Africa at Carrefour, said the partnership strengthens the retailer’s commitment to efficient and secure payment solutions while offering customers Easter rewards and enhancing the overall shopping experience.
