KAMPALA, Uganda – Ecobank Uganda, a subsidiary of the Pan African Bank Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, announced a strategic partnership with Interswitch Uganda on Monday, April 7, 2025, aimed at enhancing digital banking services and promoting financial inclusion across the country.
The collaboration seeks to streamline and expand financial service offerings by leveraging Interswitch’s advanced payment infrastructure. This will provide Ecobank customers with access to a total of 650 ATM locations, among other key services. The partnership between the two financial institutions intends to improve payment efficiencies and broaden access to digital banking services for both individuals and businesses in Uganda.
According to a joint statement, the partnership is designed to significantly enhance customer experience by offering greater convenience through faster and more reliable digital transactions. It will also increase accessibility to expanded banking and payment services via multiple platforms, including Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and mobile applications, as well as interoperable acceptance of the Verve card across the Interswitch partnership network.
The collaboration also aims to enhance security features for safer transactions and promote financial inclusion by providing wider access to banking services for underbanked communities. This will drive economic growth and inclusion by creating new touch points for Verve card holders across various financial institutions, including commercial banks, Savings and Credit Co-operative Societies (SACCOs), and fintech companies. Additionally, Ecobank customers will benefit from increased access to cash withdrawal and other banking services through Interswitch-powered ATMs, even in areas where Ecobank does not have physical branches.
Grace Muliisa, Ecobank Managing Director, commented on the partnership, saying, “We are thrilled to partner with Interswitch to further our commitment to digital transformation and financial inclusion. This collaboration aligns with our mission to provide seamless and innovative banking solutions for our customers across the country.”
Moris Seguya, Country General Manager at Interswitch Uganda, stated, “This partnership reflects the shared vision of Interswitch and Ecobank Uganda to enhance accessibility and convenience through advanced digital banking services. We remain committed to delivering innovative payment solutions that empower individuals and businesses with seamless financial services.”
Both Interswitch and Ecobank emphasized their commitment to a mutually beneficial service that ultimately serves customers efficiently and conveniently by leveraging their respective strengths.
