KAMPALA – The African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME) has announced the appointment of Dr. Emily Maractho as its new Board Chair, effective May 4, 2024. Dr. Maractho, who has been a member of the ACME board since 2021, brings a wealth of experience in media development and academic expertise to her new role.
Dr. Maractho, an Associate Professor of Media and Development at Uganda Christian University’s School of Journalism, Media and Communication, holds a doctorate in cultural and media studies. Her extensive experience in media development, coupled with her distinguished academic career, makes her ideally suited to lead ACME in the years to come.
ACME’s Executive Director, Dr. George Lugalambi, welcomed Dr. Maractho’s appointment, stating, “We are delighted to have Dr. Maractho as our new Board Chair. Her dedication to media development and her leadership skills will be invaluable in promoting media excellence and advancing high-quality journalism across Africa.”
Dr. Maractho’s commitment to media development is evident in her active participation on industry boards and in journalist capacity building initiatives. She serves on the boards of National Media Group Uganda and the Uganda Media Women’s Association, among others.
The ACME board and staff have full confidence that under Dr. Maractho’s leadership, the organization will continue to make significant strides in promoting media excellence and advancing high-quality journalism across Africa.
Dr. Maractho succeeds Ms. Susan Nsibirwa and Prof. Monica Chibita, the founding Board Chair, as ACME’s third Board Chair. Other members of ACME’s Board of Directors include Mr. Robby Muhumuza, Mr. Paul Busharizi, Dr. Arthur Bainomugisha, Mr. Wairagala Wakabi, and Mr. Tabu Butagira.
