The Parish Development Model-PDM deputy national coordinator, Jovrine Kaliisa has warned beneficiaries against misusing the money received, and technocrats swindling the money because they risk being arrested and prosecuted.
While representing the Local Government Minister Raphael Magyezi as the Chief Guest to launch disbursement of Parish Revolving Funds at Post Bank Ibanda branch on December 20, 2022, Kaliisa reiterated the need for all Ugandans to embrace such socio-economic transformation programmes. She added ICT systems have been set up to monitor all transactions from local to national level.
Ibanda district has so far confirmed 4 SACCOs as first beneficiaries out of the 40 SACCOs registered in the district. PDM was also launched in other parts of the country like Sheema.
According to Denis Atuhairwe the Senior Commercial Officer, Ibanda district has 786 Enterprise Groups with 13002 beneficiaries; 58% are women and 42% men. 30 PDM accounts are in Post Bank and 10 in DFCU.
At the same event, Sam Kacuucu the Post Bank Manager Ibanda said they’ll ensure there’s a contact person available for effective interaction with local communities using the languages they understand. UGX 1.39 billion has been allocated to benefit the people of Ibanda under PDM SACCOs,through post bank.
The Post Bank Regional Head of Distribution, Martin Lukyamuzi said this is a very big opportunity for Post Bank to continue serving Ugandans since it’s 100% owned by the Government of Uganda, adding that Post Bank is set to have over 60,000 E-wallet agents across Uganda to ensure instant & convenient services. Members will be able to make PDM transactions from their locations – like how Mobile Money works.
For Ibanda Municipality, Jovrine Kaliisa said they haven’t benefited due the delay by municipality technocrats to submit papers, but the municipality might also benefit around mid-January 2023.
