KAMPALA, Uganda – A disturbing trail of evidence has emerged in the investigation into the death of Martha Ahumuza Murari, revealing a shocking sequence of events that has left authorities and loved ones searching for answers.
Martha Ahumuza, who was staying with her mother Barbara Kagonyera in Namugongo, Kiira Division, Wakiso District, had orchestrated a secret meeting with Edward Mugabo, a cashier at Mezo Noir Bar in Kololo, Kampala, on the night of her death. Her mother was away on a business trip in Dubai at the time.
According to detectives, Ahumuza first visited another bar in Kololo, where she spent about an hour and a half before joining Mugabo at Mezo Noir at 11 pm. It was there that she allegedly consumed poisoned liquor.
Surveillance footage shows Ahumuza entering an office within the bar with Mugabo. Moments later, Mugabo rushed out in distress, seeking help from his brother, Joseph Kalenzi.
Ahumuza was taken to Kampala Hospital, where she was pronounced dead the following day. The police have taken Mugabo and Kalenzi into custody, and are preparing to submit their findings to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice.
A post-mortem examination was conducted by police forensic pathologists, and samples of Ahumuza’s internal organs were sent to the Government Analytical Laboratory for testing. The results are still pending.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango said, “The detectives are preparing the file to submit it to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice.” Onyango added that they have two suspects in custody, Mugabo and his brother Kalenzi.
