Fort Portal– The Court of Appeal is set to hold a criminal appeals session at Fort Portal High Court, where 26 matters will be heard. The session will run from Monday, October 14, to Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
The Session will be presided over Justice Geoffrey Kiryabwire, Justice Muzamiru M. Kibeedi, and Lady Justice Margeret Tibulya.
According to the cause list signed by the Court’s Deputy Registrar, HW Lillian Bucyana indicates that of the 26 appeals to be heard, Murder constitutes half of the appeals to be handled with 13 cases. Defilement follows with nine appeals, while Robbery and Rape have two appeals each.
In one of the cases, the State is appealing against an acquittal on charges of Attempted Murder and two counts of Assault Causing Bodily Harm.
HW Bucyana noted that the presiding justices held a pre-session meeting on Thursday to plan the course of the hearings. The meeting was also attended by the Magistrates Grade I attached to the Chambers of Justices participating in the Session.
