Court of Appeal Kicks off with hearing of 25 Criminal Appeals in Mbarara

MBARARA-The Court of Appeal has on Monday kicked off with hearing of 25 criminal appeals at Mbarara High Court, starting in a session which will be concluded on September 4, 2024.

The three-day session is being presided over by Lady Justice Eva Luswata, Justice Oscar Kihika, and Justice Dr. Asa Mugenyi.

The cause list, signed by the Court’s Deputy Registrar, HW Lillian Bucyana, indicates that of the 25 appeals to be handled, Murder constitutes the majority of Appeals with 12 cases. Aggravated Defilement follows with 11 appeals, Rape and Aggravated Robbery with one appeal each.

According to HW Bucyana, earlier last week, the presiding Justices held a pre-hearing case management meeting to streamline the management of the criminal appeals scheduled for the session.

The appeals In this session result from murder, Aggravated defilement and Rape convictions with sentences running from 18 to 50 years of imprisonment.
