KAMPALA– The Archbishop for Church of Uganda Rt Rev. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu has called upon all religious leaders in the country to mobilize their congregation to participate in the forthcoming National Housing and Population Census scheduled to take place from Friday 10th to 19th May 2024.
At Breakfast fast meeting organized by Uganda Bureau of statistics (UBOS) in kampala on Thursday, Kazimba revealed that census is is of great importance especially in planning and this is the reason why it has been conducted for many decades now.
Kazimba cited out that the bible in Exodus 30:11-16 says “Then the Lord said to Moses, 12 “When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the Lord a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them. 13 Each one who crosses over to those already counted is to give a half shekel.” Reads the bible
He also pointed out that census is part and partial of faithful community which all believers have to embrace as it is in Luke chapter 2: 4-7 where Joseph went with Mary to be registered.
“In my pastoral letter , I encourage all Ugandans to participate fully, give all the required information to enumerators as accurately as you know because the response will go towards shaping the future of this country.”
Kazimba further called upon security Agencies in Uganda to ensure that the whole process moves on safely by securing the safety of people with their property.
Dr. Chris Mukiza the Executive Director of UBOS (chief statistician) requeat all Religious leaders in the country, to use their platforms to mobilize their flock towards all census activities “Religious leaders you are fishers of men, help us to fish them and preach them census.”
“We have already started country wide training for trainers of enumerators and supervisors at district level and it will go on until 25th April 2024. After training, they will start training field troops on 29th April and end on 7th May 2024, giving them two days for getting used to environment in their areas of work.”
“On 10th May 2024, we shall find you at your home because it was declared a Public holiday. Even when enumerators come to you after that official census day but with in the 10 days, give them the people that slept at your house during the census night.”
Mukiza further emphasized that all census activities will be held during day time and therefore asked the general public not to allow impositors in their homes after the official working hours.
