Cavendish University became the first University in Uganda to hold a virtual graduation.
Due to coronavirus disruption world over, Cavendish University Uganda (CUU) held a virtual graduation ceremony, becoming the first University in Uganda to stage a scientific graduation.
At the graduation of over 809 graduates, only 15 students who excelled were allowed to physically attend.
Cavendish University Vice Chancellor, Prof John Mugisha said the graduates present to the world are well trained, highly skilled and intellectually grounded to add value in terms of providing excellent services and crafting workable solutions to the social and development challenges facing humanity today and in the future.
He said all 2020 graduates and their parents shall be invited to the 10th physical Graduation Ceremony in March, 2021 to adorn the gown, “walk the graduation walk”, and host parties if they so wish.
The 9th Graduation was officiated by Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga as Guest of Honour and the immediate former Commissioner General of the Uganda Revenue Authority, Ms. Doris Akol as the Commencement Speaker.
Kadaga underscored the need for government to formulate policies which will help the country to develop the Manufacturing sector.
Kadaga says, import substitution is greatly required at this moment when the country is facing the challenges of COVID-19.
Kadaga also asked universities to embrace digital platforms which will allow them to continue serving the students and the country at large.
A number of students graduated in many different disciplines at certificate, diploma, bachelor’s and master’s levels from the Faculties of Law, Science & Technology, Business & Management, and Socio–Economic Sciences.
Cavendish University became the first University in Uganda to hold a virtual graduation.
The university is fully licensed and accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE), and was established in 2008.
Cavendish University Uganda has a large student population hailing from over 15 different countries.
