A senior government official in eastern Uganda has died in a road accident, authorities have confirmed.
Hajjat Nusula Nabukalu, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Budaka, was killed in a collision on the Jinja-Iganga highway on Sunday evening.
The accident occurred at around 5pm near Kakira, when the vehicle Ms Nabukalu was traveling in, a white Toyota Double Cabin with registration number UG 4803C, collided head-on with a trailer, registration number KDH 025V.
Ms Nabukalu’s death has been confirmed by local authorities, who have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The Jinja-Iganga highway is a major road that connects the eastern part of Uganda to the capital, Kampala, and has been prone to accidents in the past.
Road accidents are a major concern in Uganda, where poor road conditions and reckless driving have contributed to a high number of fatalities.
