KAMPALA– The Insurance regulatory Authority( IRA) reveals that the brokerage business has steadily increased to 88 billion premiums from the financial years of 2022 and 2023.
Ms Mariam Nalunkuuma the manager of corporate affairs at the IRA revealed this while addressing to the media ahead of the 7th Annual Insurance brokers Association of Uganda( IBAU) conference 2025 scheduled to take place on 23rd to 25th April in Mbarara.
Nalunkuuma noted that during 2023, 541 billion premiums were collected compared to 453billion premiums collected in 2022.
“The brokerage business is growing very steadily, though the statistics of 2024 are not out but we’re optimistic that this will be actually above from what we saw last year”
Paul Muhame the chairperson of IBAU noted that they still face a challenge of mistrust and outdated perception from the public about insurance and hence that’s why they decided to take the conference outside Kampala to showcase the value of insurance and promoting regional awareness.
“ We want to partner with you the fourth Estate to fully disseminate information about insurance to the general public not to miss the benefits of these insurance companies” Muhame emphasized.
