British envoy bids farewell to Ugandan scholars bound for UK

Kampala, Uganda – The British High Commission has hosted a farewell event for 20 Ugandan scholars selected for the prestigious Chevening Scholarship program. The scholars will pursue master’s degrees at top UK universities, starting in the 2024/2025 academic year.

The Chevening program, funded by the UK government, aims to develop global leaders with ambition, leadership potential, and a strong academic background. The program offers fully funded one-year master’s degrees in any field at any UK university.

Deputy British High Commissioner Tiffany Kirlew congratulated the scholars, urging them to remain true to their principles, be curious, and have integrity. She emphasized the importance of making a positive impact in their communities and being empathetic leaders.

The scholars were selected from a competitive pool of applicants, and their fields of study range from education to finance. They will join a network of over 300 Ugandans who have benefited from the Chevening program since its inception.

The farewell event brought together outgoing scholars, alumni, Ministry of Education representatives, and British High Commission staff. It provided an opportunity for the scholars to meet and interact with individuals who can support their personal and professional growth.”

The application period for Chevening Scholarships for the academic year 2025/2026 is now open and will close on November 5, 2024. Applicants can apply through the official website at (link unavailable).

The scholarship offers full financial support to study for any eligible master’s degree at any UK university, as well as access to exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences.

The Commonwealth scholarships application period for academic year 2025/2026 is currently open and will close in October 2024. Applicants can apply through the Ministry of Education website.
