Breakthrough as Makerere’s Campus FM Set to Return to Air

KAMPALA, UGANDA – In a significant development, Makerere University’s Campus FM is poised to resume broadcasting after a lengthy hiatus. The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has invited public comments on the university’s application for a commercial radio broadcasting license.

According to the UCC public notice, Makerere University has applied for a license to operate Campus FM, an online  radio station. The commission is seeking public input on the application, marking a crucial step towards the station’s revival.

Campus FM, a popular student-run radio station, has been off the air for several years due to licensing issues. Its return is expected to be a significant boost to the university’s student community and the wider public.

The UCC has set a 14-day period for the public to submit comments on the application. If no objections are raised, the commission will proceed to grant the license, paving the way for Campus FM’s return to the airwaves.

This development is a welcome breakthrough for Makerere University and the Ugandan media landscape. Campus FM’s revival is expected to provide a vital platform for student expression, creativity, and community engagement.
