KAMPALA, UGANDA —In a significant development, the Uganda Police Force has apprehended four suspects linked to the gruesome murders of five women in Kajjansi.
The suspects, identified as Katongole Abbas, Matovu Ronald, Turyashemererwa Herbert, and Nuwagaba Isaac, were arrested following an intelligence-led operation by the Crime Intelligence (CI) and Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Flying Squad Unit.
The suspects, posing as taxi operators, targeted women traveling alone, strangling and suffocating them using polythene bags before robbing them of their valuables. The bodies of the victims, including Awori Judith, Nassali Jenipher, and Nangobi Sandra, were found dumped in various locations in Kajjansi.
The police recovered tangible exhibits, including mobile phones, a red handbag, yellow jumper, and cash, from the suspects. Two taxis allegedly used in the crimes were also impounded and parked at Kajjansi CPS.
According to SCP Enanga Fred, Police Spokesperson, the suspects were arrested in a raid on a taxi park in Kajjansi, following a thorough investigation that involved surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts. The suspects have been charged with murder, robbery, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Enanga commended the joint task teams for their exceptional work and urged the public to continue providing information to aid in the investigation. “We appreciate the support of the community in providing information that led to the arrest of the suspects,” he said. “We assure the public that we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served and the perpetrators are brought to book.”
