Bobi Wine accuses Bundibugyo authorities of intimidation ahead of NUP rally

Bobi Wine has vowed to defy police directives against NUP activities

KAMPALA — National Unity Platform (NUP) President Bobi Wine has accused the Bundibugyo District authorities of intimidation and demobilization ahead of the party’s mobilization tour scheduled for tomorrow. According to Bobi Wine, the area RDC, Lt. Col. Alex Nzirimu, and the DPC have been acting on “orders from above” to frustrate the party’s efforts.

Yesterday, the authorities intercepted and blocked a mobilization drive and threatened to arrest the driver if he continued to advertise the event. Additionally, two local radio stations were ordered not to accept announcements for the NUP event, despite the party having already paid for a radio program scheduled for tomorrow.

The party’s booking of Booma Grounds for the event has been revoked, with the DPC citing orders not to allow the event to take place. Instead, the party has been told to hold the event over 30 kilometers from Bundibugyo town.

Bobi Wine has vowed to defy these “illegal and criminal orders” and has advised the authorities not to interfere with the party’s lawful programs. The NUP President has accused the regime of being motivated by fear of the people and has vowed to continue with the mobilization tour as planned.

This development comes as the NUP prepares to resume its countrywide tour after a brief hiatus following a fatal accident on May 31st. The party has been gaining momentum in recent months, and the authorities’ attempts to frustrate their efforts may be seen as a sign of desperation.”
