Kiboga – On Thursday, the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr Pius Bigirimana, delivered a presentation on Strategic Leadership and Management Training for Under Secretaries held at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.
The presentation was part of the climax of three week-long training on equipping Under Secretaries with critical strategic leadership and management skills. Dr Bigirimana’s presentations centered on _*”Leveraging Partnerships and Collaboration” and Lobbying and Negotiation Skills.”
“Do you understand the business you are in?” Dr Bigirimana asked as he began his session, urging participants to understand their roles and consistently do the right thing to achieve their goals.
He emphasised maximising time and energy for impactful results. “You must be purposeful in what you are doing,” he stressed, adding, “Have a positive mindset, and things will move. Use challenges to work in your favour.”
Dr Bigirimana explained that partnerships and collaboration bring benefits such as increased innovation and enhanced credibility. “Your work is to ensure effective service delivery, which is achieved through innovation,” he said.
In his second presentation, he highlighted lobbying skills, including transparency, avoiding conflicts of interest, maintaining confidentiality, compliance with laws, professionalism, and integrity.
“The truth is, you must be organised, consistent, and prepare thoroughly,” he emphasised.
The training was attended by Under Secretaries from various entities, including the Judiciary’s Under Secretary, Ms Maureen Kasande.
The session was moderated by Ms Savia N Mugwanya, Commissioner at the Civil Service College, Uganda, who commended Dr. Bigirimana for being a transformative and invaluable resource person.
