KAMPALA-Benedicto Kiwanuka Galiko, one of the Democratic Party (DP) members with a number of cases in several Courts of law, challenging the current leadership of the party, has expressed dis satisfaction with the speed at which his matters are being handled.
“I have a case in Civil Division of High Court , in which I accuse Hon. Nobert Mao and his group of contempt of Court. These have continued to refer to themselves as the top Democratic Party leaders when there is a clear court decision that ordered them to step aside.”
Galiko also contends that it’s unfortunate to see that the case which he thought that it was going to be disposed off with in a few days, it has taken now months.
“This case is of a very big significance to the future of our party because the earlier it is disposed , the more time we have to prepare for the forthcoming general elections. We need to have trusted leaders for Democratic Party elected under total observance of the Party’s Constitution”
He therefore noted that since he didn’t receive the court ruling on the matter in this year as he had been told , he is worried that there could be other forces influencing the delay of justice.
“As a law abiding citizen, am in plans of petitioning the Chief Justice, Alfonse Owiny Dollo and the Principal Judge , Dr. Flavian Zeija to come to my rescue.”
The matter of contempt of Court is before Justice Douglas Singiza and he had fixed November as the month in which he was to deliver his ruling, however this was not possible due to his other official assignments.
The ruling is expected to be delivered early February 2025 which Galiko says that it will delay many party activities.
Early this year , High court Judge, Philip Odoki issued an order which declared Mao and other members leadership roles as illegal after court findings that they had been assigned those roles in a manner which was against the Party’s constitution.
