DUBAI —Ambassador Henry Mayega, the newly appointed Consul General of Uganda’s Consulate in Dubai has presented his credentials to H. E. Bin Butti Al Makhtoum, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office in Dubai on 3rd August 2022.
Upon presenting his credentials, Amb. Mayega expressed his gratitude to H.E.Al Maktoum for the warm reception accorded to him and the accompanying delegation.
Amb. Mayega reiterated that the new Consulate office in Dubai will compliment efforts of the Uganda Embassy in Abu Dhabi to further bolster the excellent cordial relationship between Uganda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
H.E Bin Butti Al Maktoum officially welcomed Amb. Mayega and congratulated him upon his appointment as Consul General.
He further underscored the immense importance the Government of UAE attaches to strengthening the existing excellent warm bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Uganda.
He also congratulated Uganda upon its successful participation in the 2020 Expo Dubai and underscored the need to increase the volume of trade between the two countries and he particularly emphasized processed agricultural products.
On his part, the Consul General outlined the priority areas in which Emirati investors could invest including tourism, agricultural processing, real estate, mineral development and beneficiation. He also called upon Emirati investors to take interest in establishing an Arab cultural center near any national park – something that is on concessionary offer.
The opening of a Consulate Office in Dubai is a concrete example of the Government of Uganda’s enduring commitment to strengthening cooperation for the mutual benefit of both Uganda and the United Arab Emirates.
The Consulate will provide, consular services, such as passports, visas, and emergency assistance for not only Ugandans but persons interested in travelling to Uganda. It will also work closely with the State Agencies, to advance Uganda’s Commercial and Investment interests in Dubai.
The Consulate will continue to work closely with the Embassy of Uganda in Abu Dhabi, where Ambassador Zaake Kibedi leads efforts to promote and protect Uganda’s interests in the United Arab Emirates. It is estimated that up to 100,000 Ugandans are currently residing in the UAE. Most Ugandans in the United Arab Emirates live and work in Dubai and other northern Emirates and remits up to almost $300m annually.
The consulate is currently mobilizing the diaspora to participate in the annual convention scheduled to take place in the second half of October 2022.
The Uganda Consulate Office is located in Jumeirah 1 District of Dubai Emirate of the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai is the second wealthiest Emirate in the UAE after Abu Dhabi, which is the financial capital state of UAE. Dubai is an important trade and tourist destination.
Amb. Henry Mayega is a seasoned Diplomat with a wealth of experience having formerly served as the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Beijing – China.
