KAMPALA– The Judiciary has finalized preparations for the 2024 Annual Judges Conference scheduled to take place starting on Monday 5th February 2024 up to Thursday 8th February 2024 at Serena Hotel in Kampala under a them: “A People Centered Approach to Justice.”
The conference will attract Justices of Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court as well as Registrars , Deputy Registrars and Assistant Registrars.
“The Conference is an annual event where justices come together to evaluate previous year’s performance and pave way forward for the best practice in the administration of justice.”
Remarked Justice Mike Chibita , a member of the organizing committee on addressing journalists on Thursday.
He added that the general objective of this conference is to take stock of judiciary’s performance for year 2023, as well as sharing views and experience,

“The Judicial officers will also use this opportunity to discuss strategies on how to blend the formal justice system with alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, draw insights on how to solve case backlog.”
The topics which are going to be discussed will include; Topics on health living, prevention of cancer and management, Good practices for parenting since many judicial officers are parents. We shall have different faciltators to talk about it.
Sarah Langa Siu, the Chief Registrar revealed that the Chief guest is expected to be from the Executive.
“We shall be having ten topics of discussion for the four days and the key note address will be given by Dr. Livingstone Ssewanyana from Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI) on the theme People Centred approach to justice and we believe that he will give an interesting key note address. The second topic will be ‘the role of Alternative Dispute Resolution in involving the public in justice delivery, which will be presented by Chief Justice Alfonse owiny Dollo himself.”
Langa added that the will also have a special guest from Tanzania who will be sharing knowledge on how the Tanzanian Judiciary has been able to solve the case backlog challenge which Uganda is still grappling with despite of several Innovations.
The Judicial officers will also get a demonstration on Performance enhancement tool which is going to be used to measure performance of judicial officer and other support staff.
