East African Heads of State are in Kenya to witness the inauguration of their newest member, President William Ruto.
During the national event at the Kasarani Stadium, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni congratulated Ruto, assuring Kenyans that the new President is full of good ideas.
Museveni challenged Ruto to prioritise the Integration of the East African market to realise development across the community.
He noted that he was following local media during the election period, but East Africa integration was not well addressed.
“What I found a problem was they were not talking about East Africa integration, only Kenya. In order for East African countries to catch up with United States, they should look at the regional market,” Museveni said.
On her part, Tanzania President Samia Suluhu praised Kenya for keeping peace during the election period and proving that peaceful hand over of power is possible.
“If there is a gift that this country gave to the East African Community this year, it is maintaining peace throughout this election. We thank you very much for that special gift,” Suluhu said.
Burundi President Évariste Ndayishimiye equally praised Kenya for holding peaceful elections.
“Kenya has won and your success is the pride of the East African Community. You have defeated the devil of violence. Congratulations,” he said.
He also congratulated Ruto, saying; “Kenyans and the East African Community are looking forward to your leadership.”
