13 young Ugandans who applied for and won European Union funded scholarships under the Erasmus+ programme were hosted at the residence of the EU Ambassador for a colourful send off ceremony.
The Ministry of Education and Sports together with the European Union Delegation to Uganda, recently flagged off a team of 13 students, who excelled in the scholarship competition for the prestigious Erasmus+ Masters and Doctorate Awards 2022.
The selected students will study at different universities in Austria, Belgium, Finland, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom for a specified period of time and then return to Uganda.
At a pre-departure event held at the residence of the EU Ambassador, held in honor of the 2022 cohort of Ugandan students, H.E Rudi Veestraeten, the Belgium Ambassador to Uganda, said the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters are high level integrated study programmes at master level which are designed and delivered by an international partnership of higher education institutions of EU Member States and associated countries.
“These jointly recognized master degrees are a true win-win opportunity that benefit both the EU and Africa. Through this programme, EU universities can benefit from the views and backgrounds of one of the most dynamic populations of Africa and in turn Ugandan students can tap into the tools, values and knowledge that form the basis of higher education in Europe,” he said.
The Acting Commissioner for Admission and Scholarships at the Ministry of Education and Sports, Mr Muzamil Mukwaya, said the experience and expertise gained by the students should in turn help guide development policy in the country.
“We believe this program will provide high level training for our students in various fields of study which is critical in the development of our country,” he said.
