President Museveni held fruitful discussion with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud —with both leaders deliberating on bolstering relations and cooperation between the two countries, regional stability and interests.
The two Presidents supported the holding of their First Meeting of Members of Joint Permanent Committees (JPC) of both countries. This is part of developing diplomatic, political and security cooperation.
President Hassan Sheikh thanked President Museveni and his government for their support of the Somali people and government.
He also thanked them for their role in ensuring peace, security, and stability in the country. He also praised the fraternal stance of the Ugandan government in supporting the Somali government’s request to join the East African Community (EAC).
President Museveni, on his part thanked President Hassan Sheikh because he accepted his invitation and for these productive discussions.
The two Presidents then instructed the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the two nations who witnessed the agreements and understandings between Somalia, Uganda, to ensure that the decisions and recommendations of the Standing Committee of both countries are implemented. They also directed them to conduct regular reviews to assess the progress and explore other areas where they could cooperate.
