KAMPALA -During this month of March, Uganda will be joining the rest of the World to celebrate the Francophone culture and French Language through a number of events.

The series of events organized by French Embassy, Alliance Francaise Kampala and other partners, are aimed at expanding French Culture and French Language all over the country.
At the launch of the celebrations held at Alliance Francaise Kampala over the weekend, Cyril Maman, the Head of Cooperation and Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of France, emphasized that the month is about several things but it mainly focuses of acknowledging millions of French Speakers world wide.
The Director of Alliance Française Kampala, Eric Touze, revealed that they serve as a platform to promote cultural exchange , strengthen the presence of the French language in Uganda and thus added that they expect to utilize this month period to fulfill their duties.
Agatha Tumwine, the President for Association of Teachers of French in Uganda (APFO) , noted that the activities in the Month of March are aimed at ensuring that at least all students in various institutions of learning receive more exposure to French Culture , on top of understanding more benefits associated with learning of French Language.
“Many students who offer French , don’t know why they study foreign languages in School. We emphasize that at least all people should learn at least one or two international language (Arabic, French, German) away from English because it creates more opportunities and exposure for them.” Remarked Agatha
She added that they have organized a number of events like Music , Dance and Drama Competition from which many learners will have to show case their skills related to French Culture and language.
“Since when I was in Secondary school, many learners have been spending sleepless nights preparing for this month.”
The series of events kicked off on Saturday 1st March 2025 with “Apéro Francophone,” an event organized by AFK to engage diverse communities in Kampala.
March 7th will be the Njogera Française Interschool Competitions Students and teachers of the French language will be awarded, March 8th-11th: Entertainment events in various schools, organized by the Association of Teachers of French in Uganda (APFO).
Then on 15, the job and study fair, on 22nd March, Francophone festival at International French School in Kampala where food culture and fashion will be at the center stage.
The Francophonie Month will climaxed with a Francophonie concert on 27, March at Alliance Française Kampala. All events are free and open to the public.
