Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has officially released the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results for transitional candidates. UNEB Executive Director Dan Odong presented the results, noting that this examination was conducted based on the now-defunct UCE curriculum.
“The examination was conducted for those candidates who had missed the last 2023 examination or those who wanted to repeat in order to improve their grades,” Odong explained.
A total of 10,141 candidates registered for the examination from 1,028 centers. Of these, 43.1% were males and 52.9% were females. Additionally, 813 or 8% were beneficiaries of the Universal Secondary Education (USE) program, while 88.2% were non-USE.
Odong reported that 96.1% of the registered candidates sat for the examination, with 4,369 being males and 5,373 being females. Unfortunately, 399 candidates did not avail themselves of the opportunity to sit for the examination.

The examination also catered to special needs candidates, with 442 males and 24 females with disabilities such as blindness, low vision, deafness, dyslexia, and physical handicaps. All but one of these candidates were present for the examination.
Regarding the performance of the candidates, Odong presented a detailed breakdown in terms of divisions, cumulative numbers, and cumulative percentages. The results show that 0.8% of candidates passed in Division One, while 5.2% passed in Division Two.
A comparison of the performance of males and females was also presented, with males performing slightly better in Divisions One and Two. However, at Division Nine, the percentages were more or less the same.
UNEB also reported a few cases of malpractice, with about 200 candidates found to have involved themselves in external assistance. Their results will be withheld until further investigation.
The results will be available online, and candidates can access them through the examination center portals or via SMS on MTN and Airtel. UNEB urges heads of examination centers to submit any queries within 15 working days to enable the board to prepare results slips and print certificates.
