Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has officially released the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results, marking a significant milestone in the country’s education sector.
“The results comprise two sets of examinations: the transitional examination based on the old UCE curriculum and the first examination under the new competency-based curriculum,” said Professor Celestino Obua, the Chairperson of UNEB.
Professor Obua noted that while the transitional examination posed no significant challenges except for time management, the new curriculum presented a new experience for the board, with some public sectors expressing skepticism about the board’s ability to deliver results.
“We acknowledge the challenges and positive changes brought about by the new curriculum, emphasizing the importance of confidence, communication, and research skills developed by learners,” Professor Obua said.
The board worked closely with the National Curriculum Development Center (NCDC) to make substantial changes to the UCE curriculum, accommodating the new learners. Notably, the reporting of achievement levels has been changed from the traditional 1-9 system to letter grades (A, B, C, D, E) to align with global standards.
“This change was necessary to ensure that our education system is in line with international standards,” Professor Obua explained.
UNEB has also been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 certificate, confirming its adherence to international standards. “We are proud to have achieved this milestone, which demonstrates our commitment to quality and excellence,” Professor Obua said.
Professor Obua congratulated the candidates who qualified for the UCE certificate under both the transitional and competency-based examinations, thanking the teachers, scorers, and institutions involved in the examination process.
Candidates can access their results online via the UNEB eReg Portal or through SMS by sending their index number to 6600.
