Airtel Africa has reported a significant increase in revenue from its mobile services in East Africa, with a growth of 11.4% to $1.367 billion in the nine months to December 2024.
The company, which operates in several countries including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia and Malawi, said its mobile money revenue in the region also grew by 14% to $549 million over the same period.
Airtel Africa’s Group CEO, Sunil Taldar, attributed the growth to the company’s refined strategy, which focuses on delivering a great customer experience across all touchpoints.
“We have delivered an improvement in both the operating and financial performance in the last quarter driven by our refined strategy,” Mr Taldar said.
In Uganda, Airtel has implemented several initiatives to promote financial inclusion and enhance the customer experience, including a rewards campaign and strategic partnerships to provide digital loans and cashless services.
Airtel Africa says it remains committed to expanding financial services and digital solutions, ensuring better connectivity and economic empowerment across Uganda and the continent.
The company’s mobile money revenue across the group grew by 15.8% to $731 million in the nine months to December 2024, driven by increasing adoption of digital financial services.
Airtel Africa’s focus on driving financial inclusion and expanding digital solutions is seen as a key driver of growth in the region, where demand for mobile services remains significant.
