KAMPALA– The Electoral Commission has released the road map for elections in Kawempe North , to replace Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya who passed early this year.
According to the detailed Programme released on Monday, it started with press briefing and stakeholders meeting.
The Update of National Voter’s Register commenced on 27th January 2025 and will be closing at 31st January 2025.
“Cut off date for registration and transfer of voters in Kawempe North will run from 31st January 2025 to 1st February 2025. This will be followed by recruitment of officers who will be conducting the display of Voter’s Register and Returning officers for Kawempe North will run from 3rd February to 10th January 2025.” Remarked Justice Simon Byabakama, the Chairperson for Electoral Commission.
He added that Nomination of candidates will be conducted from 25th February to 26th February 2025 at the office of the Retuning officer. Campaigns will commence on 28th February and will close on 11th March 2025.
“Polling day officials will be recruited from 17th to 18th February 2025 and names of the successful applicants will be pinned at the office of the Retuning officer for Kawempe North between 19th to 24th February 2025.”
The Polling day for Kawempe North Member of Parliament and City Division Councilor for Kazo ward will be held on 13th March 2025.
Ssegirinya who was the member of Parliament for Kawempe North on the ticket National Unity Platform (NUP), didn’t finalize his first term in office following the long time illness which resulted into his death on 9th January 2025 at Rubaga Hospital.
