Kampala, Uganda – In a moving eulogy, People Power Movement leader, Bobi Wine, has paid a heartfelt tribute to his fallen comrade, Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, who passed away recently. The tribute was delivered during a funeral service attended by thousands of mourners who gathered to bid farewell to the late Member of Parliament for Kawempe North constituency.
Bobi Wine began by acknowledging the massive turnout, saying, “I want to thank all the people who came in thousands to bid farewell to our brother, Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya.” He then went on to describe Ssegirinya as a self-made man who rose from humble beginnings to become a national hero.
According to Bobi Wine, Ssegirinya’s life was a testament to his determination and resilience. “He was a man who came from a very poor background, but he never allowed his background to define him,” Bobi Wine said. “Instead, he worked hard to improve his life and the lives of those around him.”
Bobi Wine also praised Ssegirinya’s commitment to the cause of the common people. “He was a man who joked a lot, but he was very serious about the issues that affected our people,” Bobi Wine said. “He was a champion of the oppressed, and he dedicated his life to fighting for their rights.”
The People Power leader also recalled how Ssegirinya’s popularity among the people of Kawempe North constituency led to his election as Member of Parliament. “In 2020, as we prepared for the 2021 election, we conducted a survey to determine who the people of Kawempe North wanted as their MP,” Bobi Wine explained. “When the results came back, Ssegirinya scored over 80% of the votes. We were not surprised, because we knew that he was a man of the people.”
Bobi Wine also revealed that Ssegirinya’s election was not without its challenges. “Some politicians complained that we should not have chosen Ssegirinya as our candidate, because he did not have a lot of education,” Bobi Wine said. “But we knew that Ssegirinya had something that no amount of education can provide – the love and support of the people.”
As Bobi Wine concluded his tribute, the mourners erupted into applause, celebrating the life and legacy of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya. The late MP will be remembered for his humility, kindness, and dedication to serving others. His passing has left a void in Ugandan politics, but his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched during his time in public service.
