KAMPALA– Benedicto Kiwanuka Galiko, one of the staunch members of Democratic Party (DP) has emphasized that the party currently doesn’t have recognized leadership, after the nullification of activities of the Delegates conference which was held in Gulu.
On addressing journalists in Kampala, Galiko pointed out that although High court Judge , Philip Odoki nullified the elections held in Gulu , many of the past leaders are still taking advantage of these positions to make decisions on behalf of the party.
“I request Hon. Nobert Mao and the group not to rush into organizing internal elections for the party until the when High court has made its final pronouncement on 19th February 2025.” Galiko responding the recent Party Press Conference held at DP headquarters located at Balintuuma road
He corrected Hon. Gerald Siranda ‘the Party Secretary General ‘ that it’s not under his mandate to issue invitation to members who will be participating in the delegates conference, (under article 72 of the DP Constitution), but it’s the responsibility of the District leadership. The Secretary General has the responsibility to make approvals.
“When time comes, only those with qualifications will be allowed to contest for the top positions in the Party. We can’t allow a person who is already serving another party to interfere within the affairs of our party.”
He further added that all those with Democratic Party at heart, should support the cause of reviving the Party to its Democratic Principles and rule of law.
Democratic Party Presser
During the first Democratic Party Press briefing held in 2025 last week, Hon. Nobert Mao expressed readiness to welcome all Democratic Party members who had left to other parties, but later on found out that the situation that side was even worse.
He also affirmed his commitment to the party’s principles and dismissed notions of personal ownership.
