Interfaith Dialogue promotes unity and cooperation in Uganda

Kampala, Uganda – Al-Mustafa Islamic College Kyengera hosted an interfaith dialogue on Wednesday, bringing together faith leaders, scholars, and dignitaries to promote greater understanding and respect among different faith communities.

The event, organized in partnership with the Cultural Consulate of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, featured a keynote address by Bishop Andrew Lugoloobi, IRCU Board Member and Secretary General of the Born Again Faith in Uganda.

Bishop Lugoloobi emphasized the importance of interfaith collaboration in addressing common challenges such as wars, hunger, diseases, and poverty. He commended the Cultural Consulate for supporting interreligious dialogue in Uganda.

Ayatollah Seyyed Abdulfattah Navvab, head of Iran’s Hajj affairs, stressed the significance of peaceful dialogue in resolving conflicts and promoting understanding among different faiths. He cited Islamic traditions that emphasize the importance of respecting other religions and prophets.

Professor Umar Ahmad Kasule, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Muteesa I Royal University, discussed religious tolerance and conflicts, highlighting the need for greater understanding and respect among different faith communities.

Dr. Samuel Okok, a lecturer at Makerere University, spoke on world cultural diversity and its impact on peace and harmony, emphasizing the importance of promoting cultural understanding and respect.

The event was attended by H.E. Mr. Majid Saffar, the Iranian Ambassador to Uganda, and representatives from various faith communities, including Christians, Muslims, and Buddhists.

In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Majid Saffar appreciated the warm cooperation between the Interreligious Council of Uganda and the Iranian Embassy, highlighting the importance of unity and cooperation among different faiths.

The interfaith dialogue served as a platform for faith leaders and scholars to engage in constructive and respectful dialogue, promoting a deeper understanding and respect for different religious traditions.

The event was a significant step towards fostering greater unity and cooperation among different faith communities in Uganda, and promoting a culture of peace, tolerance, and understanding.
